Warriors find success at conference track

The Sioux County Warriors set five personal records, one season record and picked up eight top eight finishes at Panhandle Conference track Friday.

Senior Victoria Turbiville was runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 33’8.75”, which set a season high for her. As the track season enters its final weeks, Turbiville leads the D9 district in shot put by more than two feet, putting herself in good position for a run at state. She also picked up a fourth-place medal at conference in discus, with a toss of 95’3”. Turbiville is sitting third overall in that event in the district.

Morgan Randall and Millie Hughes had a pair of top eight finishes. Randall took third in the 100-meter dash, crossing the tape in 14.16 seconds. She is currently 10th in D9 in that event. Randall was eighth in the 200-meter, with a 31.55. Hughes earned her top eight finishes in the 100-meter, where she was sixth with a personal best 15.21 and seventh in long jump with a personal best 12’11” leap.

Both Randall and Hughes competed in third events. Hughes was ninth in the 200-meter with a time of 32.32 seconds, and Randall was 12th in the long jump with a showing of 11’4.5”.

Mayranie Garcia and Miranda Smith each set personal best performances in discus, where Garcia was 14th with a throw of 61’6” and Smith was 15th with a throw of 50’3”. The pair tag-teamed in shot put as well, with Garcia finishing 12th with a toss of 17’8” and Smith in 13th with a throw of 17’5.75”.

The Warriors only boy to compete, Blaize Chase, finished 12th in the shot put with a throw of 13’6.5”.
